I watched this 2006 documentary with Lisa Ling in it about North Korea and it was so interesting, again, to see how secluded and brainwashed the country is. And now much they hate America. The purpose of the documentary was to show how a Nepalese eye surgeon was going to help about one thousand people get their eye sight back because they had cataracts. So after he and his medical team preformed about one thousand surgeries (they weren’t that long though it’s a pretty simple operation), and they waited a bit and then he checked on the patients and they took their eye covers off, the first thing the patients did was run to the pictures of Kim Jong-il and praise him for like hours. It was so crazy because Kim Jong-il personally didn’t do shit for them, it was the surgeon, but they were praising him like he fixed their eyesight, gave them a steak dinner and granted them immortality or something. And Lisa Ling made a really good point about wondering if the people were praising their “Great Leader” because they truly were thankful for him, or, out of fear.
